POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
just an interesting little happening that occured the other day. figured i should post it given recent events and its relation to music, so here it is: i was heading to class last week, listening to my ipod (actually matt’s ipod), and was listening to John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band, which i never think to put on. Just a random pick.  and as i was walking to class on november the 5th,...

Britney Spears (Nah, for real!)
I saw Britney Spears’ relatively new music video, “Piece of Me,” on MTV. I was shocked, and then saddened, and taken aback. I was in a hotel room, people were drinking and crossing in front of me, the television was playing in the background with the sound off, and I was far from sober. Perhaps I gleaned more insight because of those factors. Because all I could see was the...

Pitchfork Media review of Wilco at Lollapalooza: About halfway through Wilco’s set, I thought that I already had my review figured out: Make a joke about Barack Obama not showing up, make a joke about how the band’s snazzy rhinestoned Nudie suits couldn’t cover up the numbing mediocrity of the music on their last two albums. Point out that “I Am Trying to Break Your...

Moonrises and Sunsets
I’ve been working on this album since about the beginning of June with Matt mostly, and it’s the most professional sounding work of music I’ve made to date. I’m happy with it, but my opinion really isn’t enough, so I’m posting it here to find out what other people think. If you like it and you know someone else that may like it, feel free to send it to whoever you like. any feedback would be...

Its Ok Not to Hate Vampire Weekend
It could be said that this is a little late, and the time for it was a few months back, when the Vampire Weekend debate was at its apex. “Debate” might not be the best word here since it never felt like much of a conversation, but rather competing exxagerations.  The mainstream public ate up the record, and the music elitists bashed it mercilessly. (Excuse the broad labels, but lets...

BONNAROOOOOOOOOOO
So last week, Thombus, Mr. Comfortable, and Matt embarked on our road trip to Bonnaroo.  It was a great time, but a lot different form last year.  Last year, every band there was one of my favorites and it was one great band after another.  This year there were a few less bands around that we were attached to so, we had opportunities to explore Bonnaroo.  So here is my list of Top Bonnaroo shows...

Why I wont go to the Feist concert.
Feist is playing the Brooklyn Bandshell in July, and even though I love both of her albums, I’m wont go see her. It’s pretty much because of her videos.   She’s stiff, and not a good dancer, and the visual presentation doesn’t complement the songs, or at least their feel.   Maybe it’s just that she’s a bad dancer and I’m extrapolating unfairly from that...

Radiohead + Talking Heads = Fun-time playlist
This is a playlist made in response to a friend of mine’s theory that Radiohead and Talking Heads are very similar bands (both get critical respect but have mainstream appeal; both make heavy use of loops; both introduce another sort of music into rock - electronic in Radiohead’s case and world music in Talking Head’s case; and Thom Yorke and David Byrne have taken on similar...

Some Work I'd Like To Share
I don’t know if I’m actually following the rules by doing this but, I recently had to make some videos for my Digital Media class and this is my first project.  For you who don’t know, I work at the Rock Climbing wall here at Loyola and I made this video about our best climber.  I know this is supposed to be a music blog, but I wanted some feedback on this so I’m going to...

MHawgin' - 4/10/08
Props to MHawg for sending me this post from “The Sports Guy” Bill Simmons’ blog: Q: Do you realize that listening to Explosions in the Sky, the band that does most of “Friday Night Lights” music, can make any normal experience epic? I walked my dog [while] wearing headphones and listening to them, and by the end of the walk, I felt as if I had experienced...

Explosions in My Dessert - Terminal 5, 4/8
Tonight was th’Explosions in the Sky show at Terminal 5..easily one of the best show I’ve seen in a long time. such intensity. The bassist knocked his guitar to the ground at one point and the back left speaker blew out. I’ve recently had an urge to listen to late-night music, stuff I’d really only play with the lights off: Sigur Ros, Album Leaf, others. Explosions...

The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
On March 25th, I stumbled out of my bed, trying to wake myself up.  For some reason or another, I suddenly remembered that Consolers of the Lonely, the second album from The Raconteurs, was released that morning.  I dropped down in to the chair in front of my computer and purchased the album on iTunes.  When I got out of the shower, I started the album and I was amazed.  I found this new set...

The Cool Kids - Live at S.O.B.'s 4/6/08
Pez and I just got back from The Cool Kids first-ever headlining show in NYC with opener Mickey Factz. We’ve been rocking their EP, Totally Flossed Out, for the past couple of weeks and jumped at the chance to see their gig at S.O.B.’s. There’s something to be said for The Cools Kids, errr, coolness—particularly that of Chuck Inglish. Chuck busted out some slick dance...
