Explosions in My Dessert - Terminal 5, 4/8
Tonight was th’Explosions in the Sky show at Terminal 5..easily one of the best show I’ve seen in a long time. such intensity. The bassist knocked his guitar to the ground at one point and the back left speaker blew out.
I’ve recently had an urge to listen to late-night music, stuff I’d really only play with the lights off: Sigur Ros, Album Leaf, others. Explosions makes my playlists night after night. it isn’t too often that a band you’re currently completely enamored with comes to your town. Furthermore, few times does a show live up to its (in this case) extreme anticipation, but Explosions exceeded all prior expectiations. I don’t think I can listen to their stuff in quite the same way anymore—the show really did something for me, and each of my friends were equally in awe.
N the same way that a friend once described the Strokes, they’ve discovered a killer formula that will consistantly produce great songs. The band literally brought a smile to my face each time they struck just the right chords. And though the band didn’t smile often themselves, their rock-out level was ultra.
After their set, one of the guitarists came out and said something along the lines of, “we won’t be playing anymore songs.” (boos) “because we just gave you everything we have.” (cheers) man, To have that kind of control over the crowd like a viking. booby miles woulda been proud. what a fucking good night.
